MeteoModels is a free tool with no user accounts, operated by WeatherX Analytics LLC. We collect as little as possible. This page explains what happens with data when you use the site.
Information we collect
We do not ask you to create an account. Your settings, selected models and saved map bookmarks are stored locally in your browser and are not sent to us. The only personal data we receive directly is the email address and purchase status linked to an ad-free purchase, if you make one (see below).
Analytics and consent
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage (for example, which features are used). In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you accept them in Google’s consent message; until then Google receives only cookieless, anonymous signals. You can change your choice at any time with the "Privacy and cookie settings" link the consent message adds to the page. Elsewhere analytics is on by default; you can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
Advertising
MeteoModels may show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), and opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent through a Google-certified consent message before any advertising cookies are used; if you decline, you may still see non-personalised ads. More information: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Ad-free purchase
If you buy the optional ad-free plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe shares your email address, purchase status and subscription period with us so we can switch ads off on your devices and let you restore your purchase. We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Stripe’s own privacy policy applies to the payment itself: stripe.com/privacy.
Third-party services
To deliver the site we send necessary requests to: Open-Meteo (forecast data), Cloudflare (hosting, content delivery and approximate location for the initial map view), Protomaps assets on GitHub Pages (map symbols), Google Fonts (typography), OpenStreetMap Nominatim (place search, only when you search), Google (Analytics and AdSense, as described above) and Stripe (only if you make a purchase). These providers may process your IP address to serve their content, subject to their own privacy policies.
Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage for your preferences, bookmarks and ad-free status. Analytics and advertising cookies are set by Google only as described above. You can clear local storage and cookies from your browser at any time.
Your rights
Where GDPR or similar law applies, you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you (in practice, ad-free purchase records, subject to legal retention periods), to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also lodge a complaint with your data protection supervisory authority. For data a third party processes, you can exercise your rights with that provider or contact us for help.
US state privacy rights
Residents of some US states (including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and Utah) have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined in state law. Visitors from these states see a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link from Google’s consent message; using it stops your data being used for personalised ads on this site. We do not sell personal information for money. You may also have rights to know, access, correct and delete personal data — email hello@meteomodels.com.
